AWC River Inflatable Kayaking Clinic - August 19, 2023, Saturday Morning

This river inflatable kayaking clinic will focus on the following:

  • necessary equipment and attire, choosing and maintaining

  • inflatable kayaks, kinds, care, rigging for optimal performance

  • loading for longer trips, tips and tricks

  • river safety in general, and flipping and recovering an inflatable

  • basic strokes: paddle grip, sweep, backstroke, and forward stroke

  • if desired, more sophisticated strokes: draws, sculls, slides

  • applicability of strokes to flow in the river: eddy turns and ferrying

  • river reading and running

Our current plan is to start the IK clinic at TJ Bridge to go over basic info and assess participant skills, then split into groups for downriver practical drills as needed.

We can cater to individual needs for training as well.

We won’t keep the more advanced paddlers on flatwater for any longer than necessary, and we won’t drag a novice down the Racecourse against their will.

Class size is limited to 10 students. If you need to borrow gear, please contact Robi Mulford robi.mulford@gmail.com to make arrangements.
